Trainer Guide
Introductie
This trainer guide contains the elaborations of the low complexity and medium complexity scenarios found in
the TrueSim ABCDE training modules.
All scenarios have general learning objectives and case-specific learning objectives. Each scenario has been developed using recurring components. The purpose of this document is to support the trainer in guiding trainees during a scenario training session with the TrueSim training module.
General Learning Objectives
- Applying the ABCDE and SBAR methodology in a simulated setting
- Observing symptoms and linking them to previously acquired theoretical knowledge
- Identifying which organ system is at risk
- Applying and/or recommending desirable (nursing) interventions in relation to the affected organ system and prioritising these
Elaboration per Case
For each case, the following topics have been elaborated:
- Two to three learning objectives appropriate to the relevant clinical condition.
- The anamnesis.
- The AMPLE (Allergies, Medication, Past, Last meal, Event).
- SBAR, which is also shown to the trainee during the briefing in the training module.
- Situation at scenario start: structured according to the ABCDE, this describes the patient's condition at the beginning of the scenario in the training module. This situation is dynamic and will gradually change over a period of 15 minutes toward the situation described under 'Situation at scenario stop'. All interventions applied during the 15-minute period will affect the patient's condition, meaning the outcome may be better or potentially worse (depending on the correctness of the interventions).
- Situation at scenario stop: this describes the situation at the end of the scenario when no interventions have been applied at all. If the trainee chooses to press the 'Call physician' button within 15 minutes, this final patient state will not yet have been fully reached.
- Desirable interventions: this describes which interventions may lead to a better outcome for the relevant clinical condition. This is based on the applicable national guidelines as described in 'the acute booklet' of the NIV.
- SBAR recommendation: this presents the various recommendations that may be appropriate for the 'R' in the SBAR.
- Appendices: an appendix has been added to each scenario elaboration, containing the following:
- Completed EWS score
- Laboratory results (blood gas only where applicable)
- Chest X-ray (where applicable)
- ECG (where applicable)
